Search Engine Marketing
Is the process of combining different techniques to help promote your business this includes Search Engine Optimization, Pay Per Click advertising, and Linking Strategies. Search Engine Marketing is a new business so if a company says they have been doing this for 20+ years they are lying to you. In the beginning of the internet really started March 1985 with the first registered domain. It would take another 5 years before American Online would be released and the total number of hosts to reach 100,000. We have to remember Windows 95 is not heard of yet. The internet is run trough BBS and modems. There are no www.yourdomain.com, no images, only limited text and text games.
In 1991 the World Wide Web is released with the first webserver. There is still no need for Search Engine Marketing. 1994 the first banner ad by AT&T was released. 1995 was the year the internet really took off, Java was released, Windows 95 and internet explorer are released, the first time that www packets outnumber ftp packets (more people surfing the web the sharing files).
1998 is the turning point for the internet the ICANN begins to privatize the internet by removing the government control on dns servers. Hosts now in above the 20 million and 10 million domains make the internet a more interesting place. It is not until 2000 that there is a need for Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization sites are exploiting the internet meta content tags to produce false results in the search engines.
As you see from a brief history of the internet, a company that says it has been doing internet marketing for longer than 10 years would definitely make me wonder about there integrity. They could have been involved as early as 1994 but those early years have little relevance on what it takes to compete in today’s Search Engine Marketing
