So about 2 months ago my faithful HP computer took a dive. It wasn’t even 18 months old. I should have guessed something was up when the speakers quit, the wifi failed, and then a day after the ‘warranty’ went out the power button failed. To be honest.. Internal speakers are over rated.. I run Kubuntu (Linux) do drivers are issues sometimes.. But the power-button? I bought a reclaimed one from Ebay for $10.00 but before I could get it installed the system stopped a few months later the motherboard went out.

Here my fancy HP laptop sat on my desk as I researched for a replacement board. I was having a little trouble finding a system board for my machine. That is when a 2nd machine came in to my radar. This system was almost exactly like mine. Problem no post. I told my friend to contact HP support and that is when I found out there is an active recall for the HP AMD64 motherboards . Everything made complete sense now. I contacted HP and found out my laptop was under recall. I was very happy to find this out. I explained to Hp that my laptop was out of warranty, so I had disassembled it to find a matching motherboard. The tech was very friendly and said not to worry put it back together and we will send you a box to send it back to us.

I gladly returned the laptop and was impressed with service that I received. Well that was until I was notified that I need to pay 762. It seems that the service department has an issue if the laptop comes back in less than perfect condition. Everything needs to be replaced… the list of items needing to be repaired included things like my LCD display for water damage, key board, bezzel, and the list went on. . Well, this is fine and dandy but all that is broken is the HP Recalled Mother board. After talking to many customer service reps one having the audacity to tell me the recall was not valid, one asked me to send the laptop in… Sweetheart the laptop is sitting your service center. Needless to say it became a struggle just to have the repairs, completed that are under recall. My last call ended with a customer service agent telling me that the recall will be fixed and nothing else. I was happy with that.

A few days later the package arrived my laptop was here. I pulled out of the box and realized that the motherboard was not changed, there was a nice little letter stating this. Needless to say I was hot. I went to the office and called again. This time a customer agent told me they where not going to fix the HP recall on my mother board. If I did not like the out come they gave me a number to call. It was the number for tech support where this all started. After 45 mins I asked to speak with a supervisor and the address for legal department. I just want HP to stand by the product they sold me. If it is recalled then fix it. I do not care how.

I was transferred to the end of the line agent, if this agent couldn’t help then it will be a trip to small claims court for me. I explained my issue, my trouble shooting, and all the time I spent trying to get the board running. I also explained that customer service agent that worked on my laptop put a security screw in my laptop and I did not have the tools to remove it. The agent somehow found a way to ship me a mother board to fix the HP recall . I agreed that I would by the security drivers if they sent the mother board. A few days later I received the motherboard. I went the next day to buy the security tools to remove the screw HP put on my case.

Today I made time to take make the repairs. I quickly realized that my eyes are not so good anymore. The security screw is actually a screw the technician stripped using some power tool. It is not how I sent it. Once I started pulling out the screws I realized that the technician failed to put the right screws in the right places. My top cover was pried off leaving a definite bend in the metal. The metal shroud was bent, and the 2 screws where missing from the LCD panel (the only place I put all the screws). The synaptic touch pad cable was damaged and both cables from the power bezel to the system board. I was amazed at the lack of skill the technician used to care for my well loved and abused machine.

I pulled out the replacement mother board that HP sent. I immediately noticed it was not in a factory sealed bag. For anyone that knows about electronics unsealed bags are bad things. I guessed that the board had been inspected or repaired. The mother board was used, and repaired see the pictures. I then looked at the boards and believed that this is an older board. I do know it has been reissued 3 times; see the pictures with three different part numbers placed on the mother board. I took many pictures, and some video.

After I was done taking pictures I assembled the product. I turned on the laptop and all seemed well for about 20 seconds in which there was a black smoke coming from the computer, however I did see a boot screen. I disassembled the system down to the processor again. I replaced the ribbon cable from the power button that the technician damaged with a cable that I had bought prior to all this trouble. I noted all the damage from the factory rep starting with a stripped screw.

I now started the machine again. This time everything worked fine, maybe it was just the glue burning off, kind of like engine gasket sealer when the engine gets hot for the first time. I booted into windows but since so many things had changed on my system board. I had to reactivate windows. Then the system shut off. I restarted and it shut off again. I did this for about 5 times. I let the laptop sit off for a few minuets see what will happen. I was able to load into Ubuntu and then reboot and install Kbuntu my primary OS. The install failed 3 times; once for a bad disk read and twice because the machine turned off. The 4th attempt went great, and yes sometimes Linux can be buggy to install so 4 times is not unheard of. I was on line and downloaded the complete upgrade packages, which took over an hour. When I rebooted the laptop wants to shut down.

I have tested the laptop in many ways to see what the issue is, and when the graphics chip is placed under a load it shuts off. This board is bad also, the repairs are sloppy and let us not forget the board has been issued 2 other times and returned. I am not saying much, except I am accessing my blog using an old Pentium III Dell Latitude that is still ticking.. Dude I should have gotten a Dell. I am giving HP the chance to rectify this Recall but this time I want a factory board or refurbished unit. I really think it would be better for HP just to send me another dv6225 that is not Under HP Recall for a mother board .

Choosing a URL or Domain Name Using Search Engine Optimization techniques.

How do I choose a URL? First I try to sum up the website in a few words. I am a consultant in SEO PPC and SEM. I am also a webmaster meaning I know how to manipulate the code for my clients advantage. I am also very affordable. My key words or the services I am trying to market are SEO, PPC,Consultant,Affordable,SEM. I perfer the ‘-’ to separate my keywords so I choose PPC-SEO-Masters.com as my online buisness and affordable-seo-consultans.com. My second favorite key words method is placing all the words as one word like ppcseomasters or affordableseoconsultans. I would never use the underscore -_- such as seo_consultans becasue search engines see the underscore as part of a word where the dash separates words. I prefer smaller urls for people to remember easily. Words that stick in a consumers mind also help. I realized that I had to many websites and choose last month to combine everything into one domain and focus on this domain. Thus ElectronicCarpenter.com has been created and this is my blog .
